Shan Tong No. 3 & No. 4

New-generation artificial-crossing paulownia, bred through 11 years of research

Among the fastest-growing timber trees in the world

After its 8th year, the high-quality timber formed by Shan Tong paulownia is traded on world markets at prices above oak and beech. Our hybrids are non-invasive and non-GMO: they cannot reproduce by seed flight — reproduction is only possible asexually. This has been proven, and it keeps plantations fully controlled.

  • Annual growth of diameter at breast height: 4–10 cm
  • Trunk height commonly 6–9 m; diameter 35 cm in 7 years, 45 cm in 10 years
  • Single-tree volume after 7 years: 0.35–0.6 m³
  • Afforestation once — high-quality wood harvested 3+ times (coppice regrowth)
  • Compared with other paulownia, saves more than 40% of land
  • Withstands -20 °C cold and 42 °C heat
  • Strong disease and pest resistance, far above other paulownia types
  • Leaves over 40 cm across; carbon absorption per leaf area ~10× common species
